Financing coffee harvests
Fair trade
Trade in products that have been certified and carry a fair trade label. An example of this is a farmer’s cooperative that collectively sells its cocoa to a fair trade organization.Green
Promotes and/or supports the protection of the environment. An example of this is an organic farming cooperative.Cooperativa Agraria Rodríguez de Mendoza (Cooparm) is a coffee cooperative of more than 500 small-scale producers. Cooparm focuses on producing high-quality Fairtrade and organic coffee for the international market.
The cooperative was founded in 2009 in Rodriguez de Mendoza, Amazonas, in north-eastern Peru. The main economic activity in this area is agriculture, particularly coffee cultivation.
Cooparm’s roots lie in an initiative by a local priest, Father Antonio Rodríguez Arana, who was concerned about the low prices that coffee farmers received from buyers. He therefore set up an association of coffee producers to create a stronger market and bargaining position. The association later became a cooperative.
Cooperativa Agraria Rodríguez de Mendoza has been an Oikocredit partner since 2012.
