Promoting entrepreneurship in rural indigenous communities in Guatemala
ADIGUA, Asociación para el Desarrollo Integral de Guatemala is a small but growing rural microfinance institution (MFI) headquartered in Sololá. It offers microcredit services to individuals, micro and small enterprises. The MFI serves clients in Sololá, Chimaltenango and the indigenous communities of El Quiché. The individual and solidarity group loans are tailored to the type of economic activity. Most clients operate in trading and services.
ADIGUA is keen to further integrate social performance management into its practices, for example by introducing a code of ethics, financial literacy programmes and poverty monitoring indicators.
Finally, ADIGUA enjoys a very loyal relationship with its clients, more than half of whom are women. In addition to offering financial support, the MFI organizes commercial activities, such as handicraft fairs, and provides technical assistance.
ADIGUA, Asociación para el Desarrollo Integral de Guatemala has been an Oikocredit partner since 2007.
