Uganda Christian University - Financing better facilities at a centre of excellence in the heart of Africa
Uganda Christian University
Financing better facilities at a centre of excellence in the heart of Africa
Uganda Christian University (UCU) is an accredited private higher education institution and was established in 1997 by the Anglican Church of Uganda, which has traditionally played an important role in Uganda's education sector. Over the years, the institution has seen an increase in student numbers, which has led to facilities such as accommodation, classrooms and ICT becoming inadequate. UCU caters to more than 11,000 students via five campuses, with most students studying at the main campus in Mukono.
To meet the increasing demand for higher education, UCU has embarked on several construction projects, including a halls of residence extension to create accommodation for 200 additional students, and a new classroom block, which will be able to host around 500 students.
UCU used its first Oikocredit loan to set up the Hamu Mukasa Library, which has been fully operative for several years. The 2015 Oikocredit loan will be used for the construction of a hall (extension) of residence for students, classroom block and ICT infrastructure enhancement.
UCU has been an Oikocredit partner since 2010.
