The microfinance institution (MFI) Corporación para la Promoción y Desarrollo Nicaragua (PRODESA) is based in Juigalpa. It provides micro loans and credit lines to small and medium farmers and entrepreneurs in six regions in the remote Atlantic Region of Nicaragua.

Many people in this part of the country do not have access to basic financial services.  The regional economy is dominated by the cattle industry (meat and dairy) and the cultivation of grains such as maize and beans. Only one region, the South Atlantic Autonomous Region, is wet and tropical, with rainfall throughout the year, and green pastures and water for crop cultivation.

PRODESA has one of the most competitive interest rates on the market, which makes its products accessible to many farmers and entrepreneurs.

PRODESA will use Oikocredit's support to further grow its portfolio and consolidate its branches.
