Agricultores Federados Argentinos Sociedad Cooperativa Limitada
More bargaining power for small and medium farmers
Agricultores Federados Argentinos (AFA) is an Argentinean cooperative that produces and trades in agricultural products and inputs. The cooperative is also involved in the production of edible oil and vegetable processing. AFA offers farmers a wide range of other services including logistic services, insurance products, technical assistance and financing solutions.
AFA is currently present in more than 130 towns in nine provinces: Santa Fe, Buenos Aires, Córdoba, Entre Ríos, Santiago del Estero, Chaco, Salta, Tucumán and San Luis (2016).
AFA is a leading agricultural cooperative in Argentina and also one of the largest in Latin America. Founded in 1932, the cooperative had more than 37,000 members in 2016. Most members are small and medium farmers with little or no bargaining power when it comes to putting their products on the market. Cooperative membership gives them access to better marketing opportunities. It also allows them to continue running their own farms rather than renting them out to large multinational agro corporations.
Agricultores Federados Argentinos has been an Oikocredit partner since 2016.
